Erik Liljenberg’s drawings and paintings oscillates between the manic energetic and the introvert contemplative. They come to life between something spontaneous and something controlled. As the Danish poet Peter Laugesen very precisely puts it in a review from 1983 on Liljenberg’s works: They are all over compositions but there are both an up, down, right and left in them. They are not abstract and even though they look it they are not really organic either – they are rather more chemical or synthetic.
Erik Liljenberg (1942-2014) graduated from Aarhus Academy of Arts in 1966. In the late 1960’s, he was part of the Aarhus Avantgade, and he made several artistic collaborations with Dan Turèll, Peter Laugesen and Kristen Bjørnkjær, among others. In 1997, he had a large solo exhibition at Silkeborg Museum of Art. In 2017, Galleri Tom Christoffersen presented his works in the retrospective exhibition GALAXIES OF VISION. With the exhibition, the book SYNETS GALAXER – maleren Erik Liljenberg, written by Lars Movin, was published.
